Hailstorm over Thun (Switzerland)
Incredible but true: On Wednesday, 31.05.2017, hail the size of golf balls rained on Thun. As you know, are modules are certified for hail class 4. We are proud to announce that our modules came out of this natural event unscathed, while the inverters, light bands, skylights on the roof and all cars parked near Meyer Burger suffered heavy damage. This shows yet again that Swiss quality pays off.

single-family home project in Luxembourg, June 2016 :
Our history
Founded in 2004, Solarwood Folkendange S.A. is geared to building and operating the biggest and only photovoltaic farm
of solar trackers in Luxembourg with a capacity of 1 Megawatt.
After an obstacle race over several years to obtain the required permits, this ambitious project has today reached the phase
of searching for potential investors so as to be implemented in the short term.
Created in 2007, Solarwood Technologies S.A. is the first company to have established a production line for solar modules in Luxembourg (Foetz) with a capacity of 15 Megawatts. The first “Made in Luxembourg” module was produced on 30 November 2007. The immediate success of these modules and the constant increase of production attracted the interest of the French group Saint Gobain, the world leader in home construction design, which proceeded to acquire a 30% stake as of 2009.
Following the unexpected death of Michel Unsen, the founder of the Solarwood group of companies, the production company Solarwood Technologies S.A. was taken over fully (100%) by Saint Gobain. In 2013, the French group closed the Foetz plant and repatriated its activities to France.
Five years later and with a certain hindsight, Myriam Bellion, the widow of the founder, decided to relaunch the activities of Solarwood Folkendange S.A. The company is now focused on the sale and distribution of upscale solar modules, in standard versions and to measure, and in particular those of the range of the roof integration modules (MegaSlate®) from the European leader Meyer Burger S.A..

Our mission
Solar energy is not limited to just a few average quality solar modules installed on the fly and inelegantly on an existing roof
in exchange for some state subsidy. Not only are these solar panels ungainly, but they also disturb the entire balance of the building. By their simple presence, they turn the house of your dreams into an architectural horror.
The ugliness is not inevitable and solar can and must rhyme with beautiful. High quality roof integrated solutions like ours confer respectability on photovoltaic applications and provide new perspectives for the technology on the functional and aesthetic front. They combine energy efficiency and design and announce the architecture of tomorrow.
With our solutions we have embarked on a mission to get architects and general contractors to discover the pleasure of playing with photovoltaic modules. These must no longer be considered as a constraint, but as a real architectural element that adds value to the construction. Thanks to the variation of their shapes and sizes, upscale MegaSlate® solar modules from
Meyer Burger S.A. have emerged as a real alternative to traditional slates and tiles. The surface of the roof is covered optimally
and the integration is harmonious.
The flexibility of the MegaSlate® modules allows all the daring architectural touches and enables the architect to give his imagination and creativity free rein. Elements to measure can be made upon request to guarantee flawless adaptation to the configuration of each roof. It is no coincidence that many buildings equipped with MegaSlate® solar systems obtain the Swiss Solar prize every year for the successful combination of quality and aesthetics in the integration of their installations.
Our vision
For us, energy is not just a business. It is a priority, a commitment, a conviction. We are firmly convinced that, applied on a large scale, this renewable energy could solve a large part of the environmental problems of our contemporary society.
Nature would be better respected, the different forms of pollution reduced, and the nuclear danger averted.
The major challenge of the future lies in energy independence. Each building equipped with a positive energy roof reduces its dependence on fossil fuels and will become completely independent in the near future when it will be possible to store solar energy. We are already preparing that future. Our integrated roofing solutions post energy results far superior to the average and guarantee maximal efficiency. Solar energy, solar heating and skylight merge into a single entirely integrated system.
The MegaSlate® solar modules are composed exclusively of superior quality silicone cells and quality composite materials. They have a self-cleaning and passive ventilation system that prevents humidity from accumulating under the roof.
The MegaSlate® H+S thermal panel completes the energy roof with collectors that produce hot water for sanitary use or for a backup heating system. Thanks to the rare gases that they contain, these thermal collector panels provide maximum efficiency and can be combined with heat pump systems.
The Wenger roof window with flush surface boasts an innovative technology, combined with simple integration in the MegaSlate® solar roof, and guarantees improved energy efficiency thanks to its insulating triple glazing.
In opting for our solar roof system, our customers not only take a big step towards the future, but also make a personal contribution to energy transition.
Our trade
Our deep-rooted experience in solar technology for decades enables us to offer our consumers integrated, very high quality roof solutions (BIPV, Building Integrated Photovoltaics). Our flagship product is the MegaSlate®, developed by Meyer Burger group S.A. – the undisputable reference on the market of roof integration modules.
Composed of high-technology photovoltaic cells, this upscale solar roof system is entirely suited for the construction of new buildings and the sanitisation of roofs. Resistant to wind, snow accumulation and hail, entirely tight, the MegaSlate® solar modules fit perfectly in the roof and replace the usual cover of a roof in its precise measurements.
No need for a traditional roof any longer, the unique integrated MegaSlate® system replaces it while offering the same advantages. Swiss-quality products made in Thoune, the MegaSlate® solar modules are simple and easy to install - like tiles.
Quality, expertise and exclusive cooperation with high-level manufacturers like Meyer Burger S.A.: we are the ideal partner for every owner who wants a positive energy roof that is as functional as it is beautiful, and for every architect and general contractor wishing to express his creativity by helping reduce the ecological gap.
